Digital Camera Magazine Photo of the Year

Planet Earth

Under the topic of Planet earth, Digital Camera Magazine identified three winners for this year (2009) contest. The judges were looking for Pictures that show the beauty and drama of the world's flora and fauna. The images with impact rather than exotic species. We're familiar with many animals and plants so experiment with different techniques to reveal something new. Whether shooting a plant portrait or an animal study, look to reveal the spirit of its character
It's taken around eight months and seen over 100,000 entries, and now it draws to a close - below we can see the winners in this year's Digital Camera Photographer of the Year competition. Exhibition of the best entries can be viewed at the Mall Galleries, London that runs from 9th to 13th December

Winner, Partners (Bragi J. Ingibergsson, Iceland)
“Two Icelandic horses posing for me in Hafnarfjördur on a cold, bright and beautiful day when there was still a little snow on the ground and the light conditions were very good. I had to lie in the snow for some time, but my patience was rewarded when suddenly everything came together for just a moment.”

2nd Place-The Centre of Attention(Peter Byrne, Finland)
"A cygnet sleeps securely in the comfort of its mothers plumage. I spent five days with the family of swans, taking time to ensure they became used to my presence. My aim was to portray a common subject in a new and captivating light while highlighting the intimacy shared between these beautiful creatures."

3rd Place-My Journey (Bayu Husodo, Indonesia)
"A bug in the circle of a plant. To explore an insect's life is very exciting. I love to monitor their actions, then capture them on camera."
